Nicholas R.L. Kunysz

Lawyer & Mediator

Nicholas Kunysz is a partner at Morrison LLP.  Nicholas has experience representing clients in the Alberta Court of Justice, the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, and various administrative tribunals.

Nicholas has had a passion for family law since law school, where he worked as a research assistant on family law issues and volunteered with family law projects. While in law school Nicholas won several awards and achievements, including being first in his class for family law, first in his class for aboriginal law, first place in a civil litigation moot competition, and multiple scholarships. Nicholas is dedicated to helping people navigate through the often complicated and difficult problems in family law in order to help them find solutions that work for them, be it through mediation or litigating high-conflict child custody, parenting, property, and separation disputes.

In addition to family law, Nicholas also runs a civil litigation practice, and has experience drafting testamentary documents including wills, powers of attorney, and personal directives. He is a Sessional Instructor with the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, who is coaching the Morrison LLP Family Law Moot.

Prior to practicing law, Nicholas worked in academia as a researcher and political risk consultant, during which he had research published in a prestigious peer-reviewed academic journal. Outside of the office Nicholas spends much of his time with his son, reading, camping, kayaking, and making the odd scuba diving trip.
